Fiona Macrae, Corporate Social Responsibility Executive, was diagnosed with breast cancer in Febuary 2005 when her son, Cameron, was just 5 months old. During her pregnancy, Fiona queried changes in her breast several times but was told she had nothing to worry about.
How in sure pink came about
insurepink is the brainchild of Fiona. Following initial treatment she decided to take a holiday with her family to recuperate. However, when she tried to obtain travel insurance she encountered many problems. Insurance companies asked distressing, personal and intrusive questions in an insensitive manner, and all the policies they offered Fiona were loaded with at least £150.
Following more research into insurance for breast cancer sufferers, Fiona was adamant that she wanted to do something to change the status quo.
insurepink's travel policy puts an end to sky-high premiums for women with breast cancer and Fiona is pleased to be making a positive contribution. 'It is important to change people's attitudes to cancer. It's not the death sentence it might have been thirty years ago.'
'We are supporting the Pink Ribbon Foundation through insurepink . The Foundation supports all these little charities that support people going through cancer. I am fortunate that I had support, but for people going through what I went through and have no support, that's when they really do need help from a charity.'
'It isn't just the chemotherapy, it is a full year of treatment and if you haven't got family support then God knows how people do it. I am just hoping that insurepink can raise as much money as possible for the Pink Ribbon Foundation and I am really excited about it.'
