MPs sign Early Day Motion supporting in sure pink
In an unprecedented government move, almost 60 cross party members of parliament have signed an Early Day Motion (EDM) in support of insurepink’s travel insurance policy for people diagnosed with breast cancer.
The insurepink initiative is sponsored and commended by Sharon Hodgson, Labour MP for Gateshead East. Ms Hodgson's EDM notes that 172,000 women have been diagnosed with breast cancer in the last decade and survived. She believes the travel insurance industry should become more sensitive in dealing with patients, including those in remission, who sometimes face unreasonably high charges for travel insurance, making it too expensive to enjoy a holiday.
EDMs are formal motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons. They publicise the views of MPs, drawing attention to specific events or campaigns, and demonstrate the extent of parliamentary backing for a particular cause. MPs add their signatures to an EDM to show their support.
